“Somewhere between our fears, and the persistent yearning in knowing beyond what our eyes cannot see but our hearts can feel, lives our truest selves — waiting to be revealed and brought to life.” – Em Kitchener
Em’s love for non-fiction writing came from years of her own soul searching, personal development, healing and hunger for spiritual growth. Following the whisper within, she came into authorship organically through witnessing the world around her and attempting to make sense out of what often her limited human wisdom couldn’t. She spent many years as an intensive care nurse, travelling the country and caring for people of all walks of life. A lot of her developmental years were in the arena with the sick, the dying, those that were harmed, suffering and even witnessing the miraculous in the darkest of places. When facing any degree of adversity and unknown, what she noticed was that it often led people trying to either control or make sense out of their pain, their struggles, and how they ended up where they were in their life. Battling with uncertainty as many of us do daily, Em learned this undeniable truth of the human condition and the key to our resiliency — the power of our story and that on the other side of uncertainty, if we choose to remain open, steady and hopeful, the light will eventually fill the blank pages, the gaps in our psyche, a deeper part of us has been yearning to come to know.
Em believes that God is writing something much more beautiful through all of us than what we can often comprehend or take in, nor take the time to really be humble witnesses to until we bravely opt out of the cultural machine, face our fears and choose to find our way through our individual sea of limiting circumstances. Each of us carries a unique story waiting to be brought into the light: a narrative brimming with meaning, beauty, and hope; by following the golden thread of this deeper knowing within us, discovering our stories and sharing them has the power to heal divides, to grow us and deepen intimacy within our lives, and to reveal the good that has already been done and continues to exist, that maybe we all temporarily lost sight of along the way. When we turn and face what’s within, God will show us the beauty in the most tender, broken and darkest parts of our lives — the places we often want to numb, forget and tuck away. It’s only when we embrace life fully, we come to experience its beauty and true meaning.
It’s Em’s desire to write books that allow readers to lovingly discover themselves within their struggles, doubts and fears, while inspiring a hopeful future no matter what circumstances they feel up against by giving them wisdom and insight on how to set things aside that keep them from living in alignment with their dignity and destiny. Em believes our unique story is at the root of what connects us, transforms us, heals us and inspires us to live a life more intentional and meaningful. That by engaging with and co-creating our path within the vast realms of possibility instead of unconsciously running towards self preserving certainty, we become who God designed us to be. That each of us possesses a story as our own unique calling to rise up from the ashes and into; where we get to go on the greatest adventure of a lifetime: one that not only preserves, but bares our soul so we may finally come home to our true selves.
